I joined NPW to network with peers. In addition to meeting outstanding female journalists, I’ve made many good friends. At conferences I learned from leading local, state and national-level speakers.”

NPW State Conventions

NPW has a fall and a spring convention at various locations around the state. Each convention features workshops, speakers and panel discussions designed to enhance members’ knowledge and skills.

Fall convention is designed as a drive-in, drive-out same-day event to transact a little business but primarily to motivate and inspire individuals while helping hone their skills. It features announcement of the NPW Communicator of Achievement at the noon luncheon.

Spring convention is a full day that includes business meeting, speakers, panel discussions and workshops. At its noon luncheon, high school contest winners are awarded, scholarship winners are recognized and the newest Nebraska Women Journalists Hall of Fame members are inducted. At the evening banquet, professional communication contest awards are made, and sweepstakes winners are announced.

Because state conventions utilize different locations, both fall and spring conventions usually include late afternoon opportunities to see more of the area, generally through a planned tour or event.

Keynote speakers bring insight and inspiration, workshops offer tools to get ahead in the changing media environment, participants help you expand your personal and professional networks.

Highlights of the conference are announcement of the national Communicator of Achievement and runners-up, presentation of awards to national high school, college and professional communications contest winners as well as presentation of the professional communications contest Sweepstakes Award. The three-day conference also includes a business meeting of conference delegates from each of the states.
