A reporter, photographer and columnist for the Kearney Hub took home the top sweepstakes award in the 2018 Nebraska Press Women Communications Contest.
Lori Potter earned 11 first-place awards on her way to the top spot.
The Marianne Beel Sweepstakes awards were presented May 5 at NPW’s spring conference in Omaha. The award is named after the late Marianne Beel, a longtime NPW member and contest director. The contest recognizes work published in 2017.
LuAnn Schindler, managing editor for the Clearwater Journal-Ewing News, placed second with eight first-place awards. In addition to her duties for the News, she contributes to the Neligh News & Leader.
Mary Jane Skala, a reporter and columnist for the Kearney Hub, placed third with six first-place awards.
First-place entries in 58 categories advanced to the national level in the contest sponsored by the National Federation of Press Women. Results will be announced at NFPW’s annual convention in September in Bethlehem, Pa., in September.
