Nebraska high school students earned two first places, two second places, four third places and nine honorable mentions in the National Federation of Press Women High School Communications Contest. Winners were announced during a May 17 awards ceremony held via Zoom.
First-place entries in the Nebraska Press Women High School Communications Contest advanced to the national round of competition. The contest recognizes students in 23 categories representing a variety of areas including writing, photography, graphics, page layout, and yearbook.
Nebraska’s national winners are from eight schools – Dorchester Public School in Dorchester, Gretna High School in Gretna, Lexington High School in Lexington, Marian High School in Omaha, Millard North High School in Omaha, Millard South High School in Omaha, Ralston High School in Ralston, and Westside High School in Omaha.
First-place honorees are:
- Yearbook Layout – Brooklyn Lul, Lexington High School, Created to Create
- Yearbook Copywriting – Nina Kudlacz, Ralston High School, For Tanner
Second-place winners are:
- Cartooning – Cecilia Urbanski, Marian High School, Proud to be an American
- Radio/Television Interview or Talk Show – Max Coughlin, Westside High School, Full Court Press
Third-place winners are:
- Sports Photo – Cecilia Gerard, Westside High School, Making Waves
- Single Page Layout – Sydney Fuehringer-Rolles, Westside High School, Bow Tie Boys
- Double-truck Layout – Alexa Leiting, Millard South High School, The Hubbub Surrounding Grub
- Best Newscast: Radio or Television – Umanga Ghimire and Emily Jasa, Westside High School, Warrior Television Broadcast Package
Honorable mention awards went to:
